چکیده

The influence of electronic shell effects on the barriers and channels pertaining to metal-cluster fission is studied using a shell correction method in connection with an asymmetric two-center-oscillator model potential. This approach has the advantage that the ensuing shape parametrization allows for an independent variation of the deformations of parent and daughter clusters. Results for both symmetric and asymmetric channels associated with the parent clusters Nalo2+ and Na1g2+ are presented. We find that barriers, which separate the parent configuration from molecular-type configurations associated with preformation of the fragments, are most important and must be considered, together with the subsequent separation process, for proper elucidation of metal-cluster fission phenomena.

Structure and dynamics of alkali-metal clusters and fission of highly charged clusters

A dynamical optimization of the minimum energy cluster structures of Na, K, Rb, and Cs clusters was performed using a many-body potential based on local density calculations. The energetics and vibrational analysis of the neutral clusters in the size range 8,N,310 were calculated, including the free energy as a function of the cluster size and the melting temperature. The fission process due to...

Fragmentation of multiply charged simple metal clusters in liquid-drop stabilized jellium model

In this work, we have used the liquid-drop model in the context of stabilized jellium model, to study the stability of Z-ply charged metal clusters of different species against fragmentation. We have shown that on the one hand, singly ionized clusters are stable against any spontaneous fragmentation, and on the other hand, the most favored decay process for them is atomic evaporation. However, ...

بررسی فرایند شکافت خوشه‌های تغییر شکل یافته سدیم در الگوی قطره مایع و ژله پایدار

In this work, using the liquid drop model in the context of the stabilized jellium model, we have studied the fission of charged Na clusters. In this study we have assumed a deformed non-spherical shape for the cluster. The ground state energies, critical sizes, fission barrier height, and the evaporation energies have been calculated. The results show a better agreement to the experimental r...

Molecular dynamics study of neutral and multiply charged sodium clusters

The fission mechanism of multiply charged sodium clusters was investigated with molecular dynamics and a new potential featuring a local density approximation second-moment approach. We show that the critical size at which 2+, 3+ and 4+ charged clusters undergo fission due to Coulomb forces depends strongly on the cluster temperature. The smallest critical sizes occur for cold clusters. Master ...

Multiply charged metal cluster anions.

Formation and stability patterns of silver dianionic and gold trianionic clusters are investigated with Penning-trap experiments and a shell-correction method including shape deformations. The theoretical predictions pertaining to the appearance sizes and electronic shell effects are in remarkable agreement with the experiments. Decay of the multiply anionic clusters occurs predominantly by ele...
